Released first in Japanese arcades in 2001, a Japanese Dreamcast port came in 2002, followed by a North American Gamecube release in 2003. It was eventually released on the Xbox Live Arcade. One of Treasure's better known titles, it is centered around its unique polarity mechanic. The Ikaruga craft can change its polarity to absorb bullets of one colour to release homing missiles, and do double damage to the opposite colour. In addition, extra points are awarded for making "chains" (destroying three enemies of one colour at a time) and defeating bosses as fast as possible. While the game only has 5 stages, and doesn't loop, it is deceptively complex.
